OTHER: Khaleesi, also known as Kallie, was rescued (as Christabelle) back in 2021 after she was thrown in the pound in Bosnia and left to rot. When rescued she was very malnourished and underweight but those days are long behind her now.Kallie has been living with her family in the UK since 2021 but unfortunately, due to unforseen medical issues, her adopter has made the very difficult decision to contact us to ask for help in finding Kallie a more suitable home. Kallie absolutely loves her food but it does appear that she is intolerant to beef so and can have a bit of a sensitive stomach so she will need to be fed a raw diet or a high quality wet food such as Forthglade. Kallie may jump up if you have food in your hand but when you sit down with food, she's very good at giving you space and she doesn't beg. Kallie loves chasing balls and playing. She loves her toys but is a master at finding a seam to unpick! Kallie enjoys belly rubs and butt scratches! She loves snuggles and, despite her size, thinks she would make a good lap dog!
Kallie is a very clever girl and has responded well to positive reward based training and has learnt cue words such as sit, paw, down, stay, leave.
As a LGD, Kallie has firm boundaries and she will let you know vocally if she is feeling uncomfortable or unsure in any situation. Kallie currently lives with another dog but would probably prefer to be an only dog. She can be unsure of unknown dogs so she will need gradual introductions and time to build trust and get to know them. Like all LGDs, Kallie bonds deeply with humans she trusts. She can get excited and jump at people she knows and loves but she is a big dog so this would need to be kept in mind with others. Kallie will need a home without any visiting young children. Kallie will also need gentle introductions to new people and to be allowed time to get to know them. Kallie is strong on the lead and still finds walking on the lead stressful and challenging due to anxiety and frustration and would benefit from one to one walks to improve her trust and confidence at walking on lead.
Kallie would do well in a rural home with plenty of secure land or a large secure garden so that walks were not a daily necessity. Kallie will currently often defend herself on walks as she feels more vulnerable restrained on a lead. She can bark at other dogs, bikes, etc. Kallie does not run off lead unless she is in a secure field or at home, this will need to continue in her new home. Kallie doesn't like loud or sudden noises and, like all LGDs, she will alert you to new activity such as knocking at the door, people walking passed the house, or arriving visitors.
Kallie settles and travels very well in the car. Kallie has a beautiful, thick coat which will need regular grooming as she's not fond of baths!
Kallie is a big, beautiful, cuddly girl who is so loved by her family but her adopter knows that she needs to make this heartbreaking decision in order to find Kallie the home, life and environment that she deserves so that she can live her absolute best life. Saying goodbye to Kallie will be devastating for her family but they know it is the best thing for Kallie.
Kallie's family are happy to arrange meets at a secure location with potential adopters.
